New Britain, Conn. (April 13, 2021)--Mount St. Mary's battled league-leading Central Connecticut tough before yielding three goals over the final 10 minutes in a 4-1 loss on Tuesday afternoon. Elizabeth Rockhill scored the Mount's goal while
Maggie Barron made a season-high 17 saves in the loss. The Mount finishes the season with a 4-5 overall record and a 3-5 mark in the Northeast Conference.
Central Connecticut (6-0, 6-0 NEC), playing for an undefeated regular season and the right to host the NEC title game, took the lead in the 32nd minute on Kelly Brady's goal. The Mount rebounded to even the score before the half on a great individual effort by Rockhill. The senior took the ball just past midfield, dribbled to the top of the penalty box, cut to her left, and lofted a perfectly place shot off her left foot to knot the game at 1-1. With the goal, Rockhill matched
Isabella Wendler for the team lead in goals this season.
From there, Barron kept the Mountaineers in the game, making six of her 17 saves in the opening 35 minutes of the second half to keep the game tied at 1-1. The Blue Devils finally broke through in the 80th minute on a Jamie Collimore goal. Five minutes later, Delaney Lawler converted a Jenna Rae Covello pass to the middle to put CCSU on top, 3-1. Taylor Smith's goal in the 88th minute rounded out the scoring in the game.
