Washington, D.C. (March 6, 2021)—The Mount St. Mary's softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader at George Washington on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: George Washington 13, Mount St. Mary's 0
George Washington (2-4) scored four runs in the bottom of the first and broke the game open with an eight-run fourth in a 13-0 victory on the opening game of the twinbill.
A single and an error put runners on first and second with two outs for George Washington. After a wild pitch moved the baserunners up one base, Alexa Williams singled home to the first run of the game. Faith Weber then connected for a three-run homer to make it 4-0. George Washington added to the lead on a Sierra Lange two-out RBI single in the second.
The Colonials sealed the win with an eight-run fourth inning. Jenna Cone belted a two-run homer while Williams connected on a two-run double for the key hits in the frame.
Amanda Berkley started for the Mount (1-9), allowing five runs (one earned) in two innings of work.
Amaya Bowman pitched the final two innings for the Mountaineers.
Kassidy Johnson had the Mount's lone hit in the contest.
Game 2: George Washington 6, Mount St. Mary's 0
George Washington kept the Mount bats in check for the second consecutive game in a 6-0 win in the nightcap of today's twinbill.
The Colonials jumped on top in the bottom of the first, putting runners first and third with no outs, and then scoring the first run of the game when the Mount turned a double play.
From there, Alexa Williams took over the George Washington, hitting a three-run homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the fifth to give her team a 6-0 lead.
Abigayle Perry and
Bridgette Gilliano each went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Mount offense. Starter
Avery Neuhart allowed four runs in four innings of work.
