EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 6, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball surrendered 22 runs in 14 innings, including 11 runs in a single inning, to the Coppin State Eagles Saturday. The doubleheader sweep drops the Mount's record to 2-6 this season.
Sean Garvin came off the bench in game one and started game two, going 2-for-4 with three RBI's and a run scored.
Vaughn Parker II and
Thomas Savastio had multi-hit performances in the nightcap.
Several pitchers made their debuts for the Mount.
Ben Iervolino finished the opener with a scoreless frame.
Game 1: Coppin State 15, Mount St. Mary's 5
The Eagles broke open a 3-0 affair in the fifth inning with their 11-run outburst.
Mount St. Mary's put a crooked number up in the bottom of the seventh, scoring all five of its runs. Garvin's bases-clearing double was bookended by RBI hits from
Tye Golden and
CJ Kozorosky.
Game 2: Coppin State 7, Mount St. Mary's 3
Coppin got another immediate start with two runs in the first. The Mount was able to answer with an RBI from Savastio, bringing home
Ryan Fisher. A three-run shot by the Eagles in the third proved the deciding blow.
Two final runs for the Mount came in thanks to an infield single by
Brady Drawbaugh.
The series wraps up with a single, nine inning contest on Sunday (March 7). First pitch is 1 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
