EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 31, 2021) –Mount St. Mary's bowling earned a spot as one of the 16 teams headed to the NCAA Tournament, making their first appearance in just their third season of competition. Hours after learning of that selection, the Mount received a place in the Smyrna, Tennessee region for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Sectionals.
Receiving a spot in the NCAA's Region 2, the Mount fits in a bracket with Nebraska, Medaille and Vanderbilt. The Commodores will be the first opponent in a double-elimination, mega match format. Each regional winner moves on to the Final Four, with the title game airing on ESPNU. Competition runs from April 7-10 at the AMF Pro Bowl Lanes in Kansas City, Missouri.
All contests running up to the final will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
The Mountaineers are one of four teams in the Northeast Conference to make the field of 16, joining automatic qualifier Fairleigh Dickinson and fellow at-larges Duquesne and Sacred Heart.
In the all-time head-to-head, the Mount stands at 3-3 against the trio, with all three victories occurring over Medaille.
No matter the result in Kansas City, Mount St. Mary's season continues at the USBC Sectionals. The Mount was packed in the Smyrna, Tennessee Regional outside of Nashville. Ranked No. 11 in the overall field, the Mountaineers stand third in a stacked top tier, led by North Carolina A&T. Other teams at the pinnacle include No. 7 St. Francis-Illinois, No. 12 Webber International, and No. 20 McKendree.
The USBC tournament runs April 16
th to the 18
th at the Smyrna Bowling Center. This event is a grind consisting of 20 Baker matches per day. Out of the sectionals, the top four makes the USBC ITC Finals in Michigan May 3
rd through 8
th.
The Mount finished the regular season with a record of 37-18.
