EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 27, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's struggled again staring down the bats of the Bryant Bulldogs. The Northeast Conference preseason favorite shelled out 20 runs in a doubleheader, defeating the Mount with finals of 7-2 and 13-4.
Outfielder
Brady Drawbaugh had the biggest day on offense, registering four of the Mount's 14 hits. The sophomore had three hits in the opening contest. Fellow outfielder
Myles Nicholson launched a home run for the third game in four, hitting a dinger in the nightcap.
The bullpen trio of
Derek Huff,
Brett Midkiff, and
Max Moore did not allow an earned run in the first game.
Evan Haulik and
Patrick Burke delivered scoreless outings in game two.
Game 1: Bryant 7, Mount St. Mary's 2
Bryant opened the day with seven runs before the Mount could answer, including a three-run inning in the second frame. The home side scored late in the game off a double from
AJ Holcomb and an RBI groundout from
Thomas Savastio.
Starter
Brendan Kennedy took the loss after surrendering five earned runs and six total across five innings. Bulldogs designated hitter Damaurys Rodriguez did the most damage with three RBI's.
Game 2: Bryant 13, Mount St. Mary's 4
The second game was closer for a time than the final score indicated. Bryant scored an unearned run off a wild pitch in the third, and the Mount countered with an unearned run of their own in the fourth.
Tyler Long knotted the score at 1-1 with an RBI double.
A four spot the following inning and seven runs the frame after that busted the game wide open in favor of Bryant. Nicholson's homer came in the fifth, and
Tye Golden was responsible for scoring the last two Mountaineer runs.
Standing at 5-14 (1-5 NEC), the Mount looks to regroup as they travel next weekend. The assignment is not an easy one as defending NEC Tournament champions Central Connecticut await them. Games take place Thursday through Saturday in New Britain.
