EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 26, 2021) – The Mount St. Mary's baseball team got off to a rocky start in their series opener against the Bryant Bulldogs. With the visiting offense firing on all cylinders, the Mount fell Friday by a 15-2 final.
Gusty winds blowing towards the outfield led to six home runs in the contest.
Myles Nicholson hit the Mount's lone round tripper with the team's first at-bat. It was the second straight game the senior led off the game with a dinger. Bryant busted five longshots, with catcher Liam McGill hitting two of them. McGill drove in six of the 15 runs.
The Bulldogs began their barrage from the outset, scoring three runs in the first inning. Nicholson cut the deficit to two, and
Ryan Fisher added an RBI single in the third to make it 3-2.
That would be the closest the Mount would get, as Bryant put a five spot on the board in the fourth, chasing starter
Jordan Geber from the game. The Bulldogs added two runs in the fifth, four in the seventh and an extra run for good measure in the ninth.
Relievers
Ryan Florio and
Dennis Snyder combined for 1 2/3 scoreless innings, with Florio ending the seventh and Snyder hurling a spotless eighth.
With weather in the forecast for Sunday, the remaining two games are combined into a Saturday doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 11 a.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
