EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 23, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball fell behind early and was unable to form a comeback, losing to the La Salle Explorers 8-4 Tuesday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
Myles Nicholson was the strongest offensive player for the Mount (5-11), going 3-for-4 at the dish with a home run and a pair driven in. Brady Drawbaugh had a multi-hit game, and Shane Wockley and AJ Holcomb added RBI's.
Late-inning relievers Dennis Snyder and Ben Iervolino proved effective, giving up one run over three frames.
After the Explorers (8-7) got two runs in the first, the Mountaineers did rally to tie the score, sparked by Nicholson's leadoff dinger. Holcomb's groundout several batters later drove home Ryan Fisher to pull level.
La Salle responded with a run in the third and a three spot in the fourth. The 6-2 advantage put the visitors up for good, with insurance runs in the sixth and eighth.
The defeat concludes the Mountaineers' non-conference schedule with a 4-9 record.
Returning to Northeast Conference play, the Mount hosts Bryant for a three-game set beginning Friday (March 26).
