EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 14, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball gave up 42 runs in a doubleheader to the Delaware State Hornets. The visitors swept the Mount by scores of 32-11 and 11-5 Sunday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
CJ Kosorozky went 2-for-2 with three RBI's at the dish in the first game, and the Mount received two RBI's from the hot corner in game two. Starter AJ Holcomb and substitute Kai Cummings split the total. Tyler Long and Christian Ciotti registered their first Mountaineer hits, with Ciotti going 2-for-3.
A bright spot on the day was an eight run fourth inning during game one, capped by Kozorosky's bases clearing double. In the nightcap, Long's infield hit completed a three-run crooked inning in the final fram of play.
The 32 runs surrendered in the opener is the most for the Mountaineers in the Division I era, breaking the previous total of 30, given to Northwestern in 2005.
Northeast Conference play begins for the Mount this coming weekend when they host Long Island for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday (March 19) is 3 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
