BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 13, 2021) – A record breaking day for the No. 10 nationally ranked Mount Bowling team was more than enough to take all three matches against the hosting Daemen Wildcats.
With both teams preparing for their respective conference championships next weekend, the Mount averaged a program record setting 212.20 on the day. Adding to the record books was Freshman Paige Boyd, who broke the program single day baker frame average record with a 24.26. She was not without help, as Junior Tamera Stanton (23.33 baker frame average), Junior Rebecca Dodson (20.44) and Freshman Alyssa Alexander (20.39) all eclipsed the 20 mark.
Mount: 1,023 Daemen: 860
Beginning with a traditional match, the Mount rode the hot freshmen hands of Boyd and Alexander with a 231 and 228 game, respectively, in route to a 163-pin margin win.
Mount: 1,118 Daemen: 813
Transitioning into the baker format, the Mount went over 1,100 in a 305-pin margin of victory. The high scoring set was aided by a terrific 279 final game that saw nine consecutive strikes from frames two to ten.
Mount: 1,042 | Daemen: 932
The Wildcats would fire their best set of the day with a 932 total, including a 255 game five, but the Mountaineers simply had too much fire power on this day going 1,042 with all five games above the 190 mark.
"We talked today about staying loose, avoiding tightening up from the moment practice turned into competition," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "I thought we did a really good job staying in the moment, never panicking and never getting tense. This was far from the easiest pattern we have been on and yet we managed a record setting day. We are getting hot at the right time and we hope to keep that going tomorrow prior to NEC championships next weekend."
The Mount will stay in Western New York one more day as the team heads to Rochester tomorrow for a dual match with Roberts Wesleyan, who will be taking on Daemen next weekend for the ECC Championship and spot in the NCAA national bracket. Competition will begin at 11:30 AM ET and will be streamed live on the team's Facebook Page.
