Bowling Goes 3-0 Versus St. Francis Brooklyn with 208 Average

Mount Joy, Pa. (February 19, 2021) – The Mount bowling team defeated St. Francis Brooklyn in all three Northeast Conference formats to go 3-0 on the day and improve to 5-1 in conference play. The Terriers gave the Mountaineers all they can handle, but timely shots proved the difference for the No. 7 team in the land.

#7 MSMU: 1,038 | SFBK: 968

Beginning with a traditional match, the Mount used a terrific frames 6-10, in which the team only opened once in 25 attempts, to comeback and defeat the Terriers in the opening round. Junior Rebecca Dodson was huge with a 277 game in the anchor spot, while Junior Danielle Milo contributed a 236 in the leadoff position.

#7 Mount: 1,065 | SFBK: 953

The most comfortable margin for MSMU came in the baker total pinfall match, where identical first and third games of 246 pushed the Mount to a 1,065-953 victory and 2-0 start to the day.

#7 Mount: 4 (209-193-203-196-205-215-219) | SFBK: 3 (223-216-221-190-171-180-181)

The biggest test of the day for the Mount would come in the baker best-of-seven, where SFBK roared out to a 3-0 lead thanks to three stellar games no lower than 216. The battle-tested Mountaineers refused to go down without a fight, however, rallying to win four straight games and complete the comeback 4-3, thus completing a perfect 3-0 day and improving the team to 26-5 overall.

"Today was our highest average day of the season at 208, so we cannot complain too much," said Head Coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "St. Francis Brooklyn returned a lot of talent from last year and they have always been a team that cleans frames and you have to stay sharp for. In all honesty, we were not bowling awful when we fell down in that 0-3 hole in the best-of-seven. They were just making one or two more shots than us a game."

"We stayed patient, made changes with ball selection and the lineup, and this team never hit the panic button. Being able to comeback from that deficit to make today a 3-0 day instead of a 2-1 was huge. It is what champions are made of. We will enjoy this one and get rest for an early day tomorrow with Saint Francis U."

Outside of traditional play, Milo led the charge with a 21.74 baker frame average. Dodson went 21.04, while Freshman Alyssa Alexander (21.11) and Sophomore Amanda Yeung (21.00) also eclipsed the 21.00 mark for the day. Competition will resume tomorrow at 8:30 AM against the Red Flash.
