EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 19, 2021) – After missing out on play this fall due to COVID-19, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer returns for a shortened spring season. First up on their nine game schedule is a contest with the George Washington Colonials.

MOUNT UPDATE
Now in their third season in competition since returning as a varsity sport, the Mount is looking to improve on a 7-10 (3-6 NEC) record from the fall of 2019. Head Coach Bryan Cunningham and team will also seek another hot start to the season after beginning the last campaign with three straight victories.

Challenges awaiting the squad include replacing their top three point getters from 2019. Leading returners include sophomores Juan Molina and Kyle Davis, who earned six and five points, respectively, for their freshman seasons. Netminder Andrew Chwalik is also back, posting 20 saves and a 1.20 goals against average last season.

There are 14 newcomers to the team – two transfers, an incoming junior and 11 true freshmen.

ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
The Colonials are also attempting a rebound following a 5-11-1 (3-5 A-10) season. Liam Emson is their leading returner for points, registering a pair of goals and pair of assists. Justin Grady returns in goal, coming back with 26 saves on his record from the previous campaign.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This is the seventh all-time meeting between the two sides. First challenging each other in 1967, George Washington has won five of the six contests with no ties. The Mount's win came in the last meeting, a 4-3 triumph on September 11, 2010. Eric Detzel provided two assists and a goal in the game.

PRESEASON POLL
In a wide open vote where four teams earned first-place recognition, Mount St. Mary's finished sixth in the preseason poll. Merrimack was the favorite with three first-place acknowledgements, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson, LIU, Bryant, St. Francis Brooklyn, the Mount, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut. For this NEC season, all teams in the conference will play each other once.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Before NEC play starts, the Mount will host La Salle in a final non-conference tuner on February 25th.
