Dodson Averages 225 to lead Mount Bowling to 4-1 Day at Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. (November 20, 2021) – The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team put together a great response on day two of the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic with a 4-1 day against stellar competition. The ladies picked up key wins over #7 nationally ranked Youngtown State, #8 Fairleigh Dickinson, #11 Duquesne and #19 Monmouth.

Senior Rebecca Dodson put together an outstanding performance, totaling 1,128 pins (225.60 average) over the course of five traditional games. For the individual standings, she wound up tied with Sam Houston State's Elise Chambers in pinfall. Chambers breaks the tie thanks to game high with a 279 compared to 259, so Dodson officially takes second in the field. The Floridian's per frame average was a few decimal points shy of the school record she set back in March during the Northeast Conference Championships.

Junior Amanda Yeung was also terrific, totaling 1,024 pins for a 204.80 average. Senior Tamera Stanton (977, 195.4 average), freshman Rachel Hines (935, 187.0 average) and sophomore Alyssa Alexander (904, 180.8 average) rounded out a solid scoring day for the Mountaineers.

#13 Mount: 967 | #19 Monmouth: 855

The Mount wasted no time putting distance between themselves and Monmouth in a 967-855 victory. The ladies quickly jumped out to a 100-pin lead halfway thru the match and maintained that advantage to the end. Dodson started her career day with a bang thanks to a 259 game.

#13 Mount: 952 | #14 Delaware State: 1,043

A much improved second match score from yesterday's program low proved the Mountaineers handled transition better this time around. However, the ladies ran into a swarm from the Hornets of Delaware State who would put together a monster 1,043 set. The loss would be their lone defeat of the day. Yeung led the way with a 230 and Dodson pitched in with a 209.

#13 Mount: 1,053 | #7 Youngstown State: 923

The Mountaineers continued to show up against top-10 competition as they took down the seventh ranked Penguins of Youngstown State with a daily high 1,053. Dodson (256), Stanton (231), and Hines (211) were all outstanding in the comfortable victory. Total pinfall for this match is the best score ever for the Mount against YSU and the 14th best all-time.

#13 Mount: 1,013 | #11 Duquesne: 859

The Mount took advantage of a struggling Duquesne team and breezed by the Dukes by a final score of 1,013-859. Yeung once again popped a big game with a 235. Alexander (204) and Dodson (201) also posted nice scores in the win. The Mount is now 2-0 this season against their NEC rival from Pittsburgh with the first meeting coming via conference play.

#13 Mount: 983 | #8 Fairleigh Dickinson: 956

For the first time all day the Mountaineers would have a match come down to the final frames, edging out the eighth ranked Knights of FDU 983-956. All five Mount bowlers scored in the 190-205 range with Yeung's 204 leading the way. Stanton threw a clutch two strikes in the tenth working on her ninth frame setup to help secure the win.

"These ladies always respond and today was no different," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "Strategically, we changed some things up and needless to say I think it worked wonders. All five bowlers were able to eclipse the 180 average mark when yesterday we were only mid 180's as a team. Rebecca and Amanda had fantastic days and Tamera was not far behind. Our younger players Alyssa and Rachel also grinded thru early struggles to really come around at the end. Anytime you can keep the same five in all day you know you had a good day. The results speak for themselves as we certainly did and are excited to compete in our favorite format tomorrow."

That format will be the best-of-seven baker format, which the Mount is currently 9-1 (6-1 NEC) in so far this season. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. ET and can be streamed on the team's Facebook page. Three wins could put The Mount in the top five at another prestigious event. A rematch with seventh seeded Duquesne Dukes awaits them.
