Bowling Finishes Top-Five at DezyStrong Invite with Dominating 3-0 Day

CORAM, N.Y. (October 31, 2021) – The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team saved their best for last in a dominating day three performance at the DezyStrong Invite in Coram, N.Y. Starting the day in eighth place, the Mount climbed the bracket all the way to fifth place thanks to convincing wins over three ranked teams - #25 Adelphi, #8 Fairleigh Dickinson and #10 Stephen F. Austin.

The Mountaineers were led by senior Rebecca Dodson in the anchor position with a 20.59 baker frame average. Sophomore Alyssa Alexander also eclipsed the 20.00 mark with a 20.07. Freshman Rachel Hines (19.57), junior Amanda Yeung (19.29) and senior Tamera Stanton (18.34) rounded out the scoring for MSM in a day in which no major substitutions were required for the starting lineup.

#13 Mount: 4 (224-185-268-214) | #25 Adelphi: 0 (161-174-183-174)

A day after a classic nail bitter with tournament host Adelphi, the Mount ensured no such dramatics were needed this time around. The ladies averaged over 220 in a 4-0 sweep over the Panthers with scores of 224, 185, 268 and 214.

#13 Mount: 4 (170-200-206-186-185) | #8 Fairleigh Dickinson: 1 (157-227-170-163-181)

The Mount earned their second win of the weekend against an NTCA top-10 nationally ranked team in their 4-1 win over defending Northeast Conference champions Fairleigh Dickinson. Aside from a 227 game two, the Knights did not have the fire power to keep up with MSM on a tight transition pair.

#13 Mount: 4 (152-171-217-188-213-216) | #10 Stephen F. Austin: 2 (218-150-164-198-198-127)

The Mountaineers completed a perfect 3-0 day and notched another top-10 win in their victory over the LadyJacks of Stephen F. Austin. After being even at 2-2 after four games, the Mount used a 213-198 and 216-127 advantage to close the door against an SFA team that went 0-3 on the day.

"This was a weekend of growth for our program," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "From Friday's struggles to Saturday being a little better and now putting it all together today, this team never hung their heads or felt bad for themselves. We knew we still had a chance entering today to finish top-five in an amazing field of teams. It took a 3-0 day against some amazing teams, but we got the job done. Best-of-seven baker tends to be our favorite and best format. To that end, we greatly look forward to competing in this format next week against NEC competition."

After a 19-1 start, the 3-0 day and 8-5 overall weekend at their toughest competition to date has pushed the Mount's overall record to 27-6. The ladies will be back in action Nov. 6-7 for NEC Meet #1 at Bowlero Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J.
