EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 30, 2021) – With tough patterns continuing to befuddle the talented field of the DezyStrong Invite, #13 Mount St. Mary's battled to a 3-2 record, which included a defeat of the hosts, #25 Adelphi.
Alyssa Alexander led the way for the Mount, tallying a 989 series and a team best 268 game.
Rebecca Dodson finished right behind Alexander, topping out at 235, and
Ashley Santos added a 909 with a game high 223.
Mount: 887 | Molloy: 769
Dodson's 235 game came at the start of the day, uplifting some early struggles from her teammates. The 177 average across the board still carried a healthy margin over the Lions to bring the Mount back to .500 for the tournament.
Mount: 911 | Felician: 806
Freshman
Rachel Hines blazed the Mountaineers past the Golden Falcons, earning a 244 game.
Danielle Milo entered the starting lineup and added a 171 game to give Mount St. Mary's its third win over Felician in four tries this season.
Mount: 921 | Youngstown State: 1013
The Mount continued to improve against the #7 Penguins, but a rare 1,000 pin clearance for DezyStrong gave Youngstown the victory. Santos gave the Ohioans a run for their money by rolling a 223 game.
Mount: 1006 | Adelphi: 992
Alexander's 268 game could not have come at a better time, as the Mount battled the hosts Panthers to the final frame. The sophomore took a lengthy strike run to the 10
th frame, and Dodson provided some clutch shots. Mount's highest score so far on Long Island gave them the tense match.
Mount: 880 | Long Island: 907
Chances for a 4-1 day were sunk by the Sharks, as the Northeast Conference rival took vengeance on the team that eliminated them last season. No Mountaineer crossed the 200-pin threshold, although a 196 from Dodson and a 195 from Alexander barely missed the mark.
The 5-5 effort over two days sets Mount St. Mary's record at 24-6 through their first 30 games.
One final day awaits the Mount at DezyStrong, culminating in three best-of-seven bracket matches. Standing in eighth place, they will rematch with hosts Adelphi to begin the day. A clean sweep would net them fifth for the challenging tournament. Play begins at 8:45 a.m. ET with live streaming on the Mount Bowling Facebook page.
