Emmitsburg, Md. (October 21, 2021)--Mount St. Mary's fell to visiting St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-0, on Thursday night in a Northeast Conference matchup at Waldron Family Stadium. The Terriers scored twice in the opening 14 minutes en route to the win.
Arden Lembryk made four saves for the Mountaineers in the game.
The Terriers (5-6-5, 3-3-2 NEC) scored 1:03 into the game to take the early lead. St. Francis Brooklyn earned an early corner kick, and the Mount had a handball in the box on the ensuing kick to give the Terriers a penalty kick. Hailey Russell calmly converted the kick for the 1-0 advantage. The Terriers added to the lead in the 14th minute when Barbara Zagonyi scored from 20 yards out to make it a two-goal game. Lauren Schultz played the ball to the middle to Zagonyi, who took a touch and beat Lembryk to the lower left from just outside the middle of the penalty box. St. Francis Brooklyn extended the lead to 3-0 in the 39th minute when Margaret Motolese converted a free kick to the upper right corner from a foot outside the box.
The Mount (4-11-0, 2-5-0 NEC) started the second half strong and nearly got on the scoreboard in the opening seconds of the half, but
Elisabeth Rockhill's shot was tipped over the goal by St. Francis keeper Klil Keshwar. The Mount maintained the early pressure, and four minutes into the half
Isabella Wendler sent a pass that broke
Hannah Cooksey in on goal. Cooskey, however, saw her shot go wide of the goal. St. Francis then sealed the win in the 58th minute when Motolese headed home a cross from Isabelle Gollette for the 4-0 cushion. The Mount had one more chance to end the shutout bid when
Isabella Roberts was sent in free to the goal, but a Keshwar challenged the shot and deflected it wide of the goal.
The Terriers held a 14-to-7 shot advantage in the game, including an 8-to-4 edge in shots on goal. The Terriers held a narrow 4-to-3 margin in corner kicks. Lembryk made four saves for the Mount in the loss while Keshwar had four stops to earn the clean sheet. Rockhill led the Mount offense with three shots, including a pair on goal.
The Mount is back in action on Sunday, October 24, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Howard.
