Bowling Defends Home on Senior Day with Mount Shootout Victory

FRDEERICK, Md. (October 17, 2021) – The Mount St. Mary's bowling team came out victorious on the first senior day in program history. The inaugural class that started it all was honored before competition on day two of the Mount Shootout at Terrace Lanes in Frederick. The class consisted of Rebecca Dodson, Tamera Stanton, Barbara Hawes, Danielle Milo, Ashley Santos, Kayla Durbala, Kiana Saito, and Haley Buser.

After a 4-1 outing on Saturday with wins over Howard, Chestnut Hill, Pitt-Greensburg and Coppin State, the Mount went 5-0 Sunday with wins over LaRoche, Howard, Chestnut Hill, and Kutztown twice. The 9-1 weekend improve the team's record to an impressive 19-1, the best start in program history.

Mount: 918 | Howard: 793

The Mount started the weekend off right with a 918-793 win over Howard, back in their first match of competition after taking last season off due to the pandemic. Junior Amanda Yeung led the way with a 221 game.

Mount: 947 | Chestnut Hill: 696

MSM would make it two in a row with a 947-696 rout of the Griffins. Yeung (215) and Dodson (217) would pace the Mountaineers to victory.

Mount: 848 | Felician: 909

The first loss of the season would come at the hands of Felician, a team that nearly knocked off the Mountaineers one week prior. The Mount was unable to get a bowler across the 200 plateau.

Mount: 981 | Pitt-Greensburg: 750

Amid some major substitutions to the lineup, the bench came up big in a 981-750 over Pitt-Greensburg. Dodson (202) remained consistent, while Milo (201) and Durbala (207) came up big in their first action of the season.

Mount: 994 | Coppin State: 908

The same new lineup got it done again to end competition Saturday. Yeung (215) and Dodson (203) kept up their steady scoring in the win over Coppin State.

Mount: 860 | LaRoche: 694

Despite a low scoring affair, The Mount had enough in the tank to get past the Red Hawks in the opening round of baker play Sunday. A final game of 203 helped band aid the set.

Mount: 1,144 | Kutztown: 867

Once again, The Mount showed they had an answer following a low set with their second best five-game baker total in program history. All game except one (199) exceeded the 210 mark, including a 254 in game three and 247 in game five to take down KU convincingly.

Mount: 1,117 | Howard: 748

The Mount went back-to-back sets over 1100 in their second win over Howard on the weekend. Twice the Mountaineers' score soared into the 260's, hitting the mark in games two and five for the win.

Mount: 832 | Chestnut Hill: 783

The lowest set of the weekend did not deter from the unblemished record thanks to an even lower score on the Griffins side. The Mount failed to reach 190 in what was a challenging match on the tougher side of the house.

Mount: 1,020 | Kutztown: 839

MSM ended the day on a high note with a 1,020 to take down Kutztown for the second time in four matches. The Mount had the total pin-fall tournament victory all but clinched, but still brought the energy in position round with a 225 and 224 to start hot.

"We wanted this Senior Day to be memorable and it sure was," said head coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "Along with a beautiful recognition summary, we got to defend our home tournament in convincing fashion. Everyone got playing time this week and we got to show off out depth a little. That is important, as now our remaining schedule is as tough as can be and it will take everyone top-to-bottom to make a run against the best in the country. With two great weeks of practice coming up, I think we can be more than ready for the task at hand."

The Mount has next weekend off before a competition in Long Island Halloween Weekend for the Adelphi University Dezy Strong Invite. Multiple top-10 and top-25 nationally ranked teams are expected to be in attendance.
