EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 17, 2021) – Sophomore
Adao Manuel picked an excellent time to score his first collegiate goal, scoring in the 79
th minute and returning Mount St. Mary's to the win column, defeating the Howard Bison 1-0 Sunday.
Looking to break a goal drought, the Money hit pay dirt with Manuel's strike that snuck low and near the post. The ball got played into the middle by fellow sophomore
Erick Villatoro, earning the assist in what was his first college points.
Defenses for both sides prevented many opportunities. The Mountaineers edged the Bison in the shot count 6-5. Howard's two shots on goal were denied by
Adam Siviter, including a counter refusal mere minutes after the Mount pulled ahead.
What was plentiful in the game was aggressive play and fouls. 36 whistles blew during the match, with Howard committing 22 infractions to the Mount's 14. Seven players got saddled with yellow cards.
Their record at 3-11 (1-5 NEC), Mount St. Mary's challenges Navy Wednesday in their final non-conference match of the season. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. from Annapolis.
