EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 14, 2021) – An equalizer for the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer squad came gruelingly close, as several opportunities in the final moments of Thursday's match with Saint Francis U either missed by inches or were saved by the Red Flash keeper. A second half score by SFU handed the Mount a 1-0 loss.
Marc-Arthur Massang was key to the comeback attempt, firing two shots. His second effort, responding from a corner, came in on goal but was saved by Jonas Dieseler.
Adam Siviter denied four Red Flash shots to help keep the Mountaineers in the contest.
Mount's defense rose to the challenge again, exceeding previous matches by limiting the Red Flash to 10 shots for the game. But on the other side of the pitch, SFU was also stout, holding the Mount to two off-target shots in the first half.
The final 20 minutes saw the Mount surge forward. Massang got a shot off in the 70
th minute that landed out top right, followed by his corner minutes later. With the clock winding down,
Torren Aikens found an opening, but hit the shot towards a diving keeper who smothered the attempt.
Mount falls to 0-5 in Northeast Conference play, with three of those results agonizing 1-0 defeats.
Mount St. Mary's hopes a journey home will help their cause with a Sunday (Oct. 17) showdown against NEC newcomer Howard. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium.
