Mount Bowling Goes Back-to-Back, 10-0 at Bud Whitman Traditionals

New Castle, Del. (October 10, 2021) – There was no question who the best team in the field this past weekend at the Bud Whitman Memorial was. A day after dominating the field at the Bud Whitman Baker tournament, the Mount took it a step further averaging over 200 to go 5-0 once again and place first at the Bud Whitman Traditional tournament.

In addition to All-Tournament team performances from senior Rebecca Dodson (Tournament MVP) and junior Amanda Yeung yesterday, Sophomore Alyssa Alexander, Dodson, and freshman Rachel Hines occupied three of the top five spots on Sunday to make the team. Alexander was the tournament MVP, going 1125 (225 average) over the course of five games. Dodson averaged 209.8 and newcomer Hines averaged 207.6 to make her first ever ATT in the first weekend of her collegiate career.

Mount: 920 | Felician: 873

After playing Felician the last match yesterday, the Mount drew the same squad for the opening round Sunday. Once again, a hot start from Felician made the Mountaineers work for it on tight, fresh conditions. Led by Dodson with a 206, the Mount was able to hold onto the win with a 920 set.

Mount: 985 | Wilmington: 841

One day after their dramatic 77-pin comeback, MSM decided to take the easy route to victory over Wilmington. Alexander rolled a 227 and senior Tamera Stanton went 217 to assure no such late game heroics were needed this time around.

Mount: 1,040 | Caldwell: 924

Caldwell jumped out to a big lead three frames in tossing strikes shot after shot. The senior led Mountaineers would stay resilient, however, an answer with their own run of strikes in frames three thru eight to seal the deal in route to the victory over the second place Cougars. Stanton led the team with a 223 game.

Mount: 1,028 | Kutztown: 927

Once again, the MSM opponent would come out with authority hoping to be the first team to hand defeat. It would not be meant to be, however, as Alexander's 277 would prove too much to overcome for Kutztown. Hines (222) and Dodson (214) also aided in the scoring effort.

Mount: 1,092 | Chestnut Hill: 766

Despite already having the tournament win all but locked up, the Mount ensured it would be complimented by a 10-0 unblemished record in their route of Chestnut Hill. Hines led the charge with a 254 and Dodson (234), Alexander (232), Yeung (227) all pitched in with huge games.

"Our goal coming into today was to repeat yesterday's results of 5-0 and first place, but while also adding the challenge of averaging over 200," said Head Coach Kenneth DeGraaf. "We did exactly that and yet we are beyond excited to get back to practice as there are so many areas we can improve on to have 210 and 220 average days. All week long when one bowler was down, the other four picked them up no matter who it was at the time. That is what we call team bowling and that gives us a lot to be excited about moving forward."

The Mount will take their 10-0 record home as they host The Mount Shootout next weekend at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Md. The eight-team tournament will provide nine more matches for MSM ahead of their first off-weekend of the season.
