Bowling Goes Undefeated on Weekend, Earns Second Tournament Win

WAYNESBORO, Pa. (January 24, 2021) – Facing a tougher challenge and three games against a Top 25 opponent, Mount St. Mary's bowling rose to the occasion. The No. 12 team in the nation went undefeated for the second straight day, once again knocking down over 5,000 pins to win the second day of the Mount Shootout.
 
Rebecca Dodson led the team and the field with an 1133 series across five individual games, good for an average of 226.6. Amanda Yeung was second in the tournament with a 223.4 average and Tamera Stanton earned an average of 201.2 to place fourth. In her first collegiate tournament, Alyssa Alexander rolled a 905 series for an average of 181.

Yeung rolled her best game in the opener – a 237 to lead the way for the Mount's first win. Danielle Milo contributed a 211 score as the duo pushed the squad to a victory by 42 pins.

The closest shave of the afternoon came in the second act, as the Hornets received five solid scores that included a 216 and 214 game. But Dodson rallied from a 195 score in game one to a 229 effort in game two, and Yeung improved to a 213 to squeeze out the win.

Four Mountaineers posted scores above 200 as the Mount measured against themselves for the third and final time this weekend. Barbara Hawes entered the lineup and immediately made her presence known with a 236. Yeung and Stanton supplied respective scores of 228 and 224.

Facing the Eagles for the last time in Waynesboro, the Mount earned their largest margin of victory for Sunday. Three Mountaineers scored over 200, led by Rebecca Dodson with a 232. The Mount is now 11-1 all-time when battling the bowlers from Baltimore.

The title match pitted the home side with their fellow top 25 contenders. The same trio of Dodson, Stanton and Alexander that registered 200 plus game against Coppin did so again against Delaware State. Dodson's highest score of the day came in the finale with a 255.
 
Delaware State would finish second in total pinfall with 4,663 pins, but lost all four head-to-heads. Coppin State finished 1-1 with a pinfall of 4,432.  
 
The 7-0 start for the Mountaineers now stands as the best start in the program's three year history. Next weekend, the team is scheduled to bowl at a tournament hosted by Coppin State. Further details on the Mount's upcoming tournaments will be announced later.
