WAYNESBORO, Pa. (January 23, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's bowling had no rust to shake off after 47 weeks without competition. The Mountaineers bowled one of their higher Baker averages in program history – a 205 – as the team knocked down over 5,000 pins and won three contests to take Saturday's edition of the Mount Shootout.
"It was so nice to finally be back competing again today, and to do it by going undefeated and placing first just adds to how great a day it was." Head coach
Kenneth DeGraaf said. "We talked about because of all this away due to Covid, it would be apparent that first competition back, you would be able to tell who used that time off wisely. We feel we made a statement today. There is much room to improve, but overall we couldn't have asked for a better start to the season."
Rebecca Dodson led the Mount with a 21.96 Baker frame average.

Amanda Yeung, and
Danielle Milo all registered averages over 20 as well. Newcomer
Alyssa Alexander earned a 19.06 average in her first collegiate competition.
The program's fifth tournament victory in history finished six pins back of the team's all-time best Baker average of 211.2 at the second Northeast Conference (NEC) meet of the 2018-19 season. It was capped off by the team's third and fourth best scores ever.

Competing against themselves, the Mount grinded out their 32
nd four-digit total in history. The score was bolstered by a 251 effort in game two, which featured six consecutive strikes. A 206 showing in game five, with
Rebecca Dodson filling the 10
th frame with three strikes sealed it.

Round two looked as if the 1,000 mark would topple again, beginning with sets of 204 and 225. The team took a small step back to the 180's, however, and a repeat 204 performance fell five pins shy.

Facing their first opponent of the day, the Mount held on with a respectable tally. Strikes are elusive at the midway point, but the squad was efficient in picking up spares, crucial to finishing off the Eagles.

Taking charge in game four, the Mount bowled five straight 200 games en route to their fourth best score in program history. Consistently rolling between a 215 to a 218 through four games, they completed the magnificent effort with a 225.

They would outdo themselves in the finale, bowling the program's third-highest score in a triumph over the nationally ranked Hornets. Kicking off the series with a 239, and wrapping up with a 237, the Mount completed their first day back since March bowling better than 200 in nine of their last 10 games.
Mount St. Mary's took Saturday's tournament with 5,126 pins demolished. Delaware State averaged a 190.3 to take second, while Coppin State finished third with a 171.7 average. The second day of the Mount Shootout will begin at noon at Sunshine Lanes. Although fans will not be permitted, all of the Mount's game will be featured on Facebook Live.
