TOWSON, Md. (Feb. 16, 2020) - Riding the momentum of a 5-0 Saturday, the Mount St. Mary's bowling team plowed through their two matches Sunday to earn a tournament victory at the 2020 James Brown Invitational. For the Mount, the win is the third win out of four tournaments across three weeks.
The championship match marked the 100th contest for the Mountaineers, who stand at 68-32 for the season.
#14 Mount 4 | Sacred Heart 0
First up for the Mountaineers was a rematch of the 2018-19 Northeast Conference Championship. The Mount shot out of the gate with a 192 and never looked back, rolling games of 182, 215 and 205 to sweep the Pioneers. Sacred Heart never mustered a game higher than 172.
#14 Mount 4 | Kutztown 1
In the title match, Mount endured its only setback in the opening game, 179-191. They recovered by edging Kutztown 182-176 in the second game before blasting the Golden Bears with a 258 showing in game three. The high game for the Mountaineers overwhelmed the competition by over 100 pins, and helped them finish off Kutztown with scores of 203 and 192 to claim the tournament crown.
The trophy finish adds to the Mount's extensive list, but more recently, it continues a run of victories that include the Red Flash Invitational and day one of Molloy's Bowling for the Cure.
Mount St. Mary's will close out the regular season with the third NEC meet next Saturday (Feb. 22) and Sunday (Feb. 23).
