NEWS AND NOTES

  • Mount St. Mary's fell to NEC co-leader Robert Morris, 77-60, at Knott Arena on Thursday night.  The Colonials shot 61 percent from the floor in the second half, including 7-of-10 (.700) from three-point range, to surge ahead after holding a 33-30 halftime lead.  Malik Jefferson led the Mount with 17 points and eight boards while Vado Morse chipped in 14 points and five assists.
  • Damian Chong Qui is averaging a team-high 12.6 points per game overall and 14.1 points in NEC games.  The 5-8 point guard is averaging 15.4 points over the past five games and has scored in double figures in each of the past eight games.  Chong Qui is 36-for-41 (.878) at the foul line over the past five games.  He is third in the NEC in free throw attempts, converting 108-of-129 (.837) at the charity stripe this year.
  • After posting a season-best four-game win streak, the Mountaineers have lost four of their past five to fall back to 6-6 in Northeast Conference play.  Mount opponents are averaging 70.6 points while shooting 48.0 percent overall and 38.9 percent from three-point range over that stretch.  For the season, Mount opponents are averaging 66.0 points while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Vado Morse has scored in double figures in five of the past seven games, averaging 13.7 points over that span.  Three-point shooting has been a key to his surge as Morse has made 18-of-45 (.400) three-pointers over that stretch.  He is averaging 15.0 points over the past two games, connecting on 6-of-13 (.462) from three-point range.
  • Jalen Gibbs production has been a bit of roller coaster for the Mount over the past nine games.  The 6-2 guard has scored 15 or more points five times over that span, but has been held to six points or under in the other four games.  Gibbs, who has scored 15 or more points 10 times this season, was held to five points against Robert Morris on Thursday.
  • Up next, the Mount visits Wagner on Tuesday, February 18, at 7 pm.
