Mount Bowling Leads James Brown Invite after Day One of Qualifying

Towson, Md. (February 14, 2020) The Mount St. Mary's women's bowling team currently sits first in tournament standings at the James Brown Invitational at AMF Towson Lanes in Towson, Md. After a rough 0-2 start to competition, the Mount went 939, 1013, and 1015 in their final three sets to catapult from sixth to first in the field.

Sophomore Kayla Durbala was huge off the bench for the Mount, posting a team high 20.10 baker frame average after coming entering the lineup in match three. Sophomore Danielle Milo also provided a nice scoring effort with a 19.53 baker frame average.

#14 Mount: 891 | #10 Duquesne: 935

After taking a 214-167 advantage in game one, the Mountaineers slowly allowed Duquesne to chip away at the deficit before fully surrendering the lead in game five in a 891-935 defeat.

#14 Mount: 850 | Bloomfield: 863

The Mount's slow start in match two would prove too costly to overcome against a streaky Bloomfield squad. Despite outscoring Bloomfield by 35-pins in the final two games, a rough start in games one thru three was simply too much to overcome.

#14 Mount: 939 | Howard: 882

The Mountaineers would turn things around for the day halfway thru their match with Howard, who was the tournament leader two matches in. A final three games of 205, 186, and 213 helped erase a 39-pin deficit into a comfortable win over the Bison.

#14 Mount: 1,013 | Bowie State: 706

The Mount really started to turn things up on the breakdown, posing a hot 1,013 in a dominating win over in-state foe Bowie State. Games of 226 and 222 in games one and four aided the set.

#14 Mount: 1,015 | BYE

The Mountaineers made sure focus was not an issue during the BYE, posting a tournament field high set of 1,015 to jump Duquesne for first place in tournament standings to conclude qualifying. Of the four 1,000 sets in the entire tournament, MSM accounts for two of them.

Qualifying will conclude tomorrow with five traditional matches as the Mount is set to square off against Kutztown, Coppin State, #13 Sacred Heart, Mount Aloysius, and Virginia State. Competition will begin at 10:00 AM ET and can be streamed live on the team's Facebook Page.
