Mount St. Mary's Men's Basketball Downed by Robert Morris

Emmitsburg, Md. (February 13, 2020)--A strong second half lifted Robert Morris past Mount St. Mary's, 77-60, on Thursday night at Knott Arena.  Malik Jefferson led the Mount with 17 points and eight rebounds while Vado Morse added 14 points and five assists for the Mountaineers in the game.  The Colonials shot 61 percent in the second half to secure the victory.

Trailing 33-30 at the half, the Mountaineers saw Robert Morris open the second half with a 19-to-6 run to take control of the game.  The Colonials knocked down 4-of-5 three-point attempts during the run that stretched the lead to 52-36 wit 13:48 left in the game.  Morse hit a pair of free throws for the Mountaineers to make it 52-38, but Jon Williams answered with a three-pointer and Robert Morris led comfortably the rest of the way. 

Jefferson went 7-for-11 from the field for his team-high 17 points while adding a game-high eight rebounds and a pair of blocks in the loss for the Mount (10-15, 6-6 NEC).  Morse added 14 points, five assists and four rebounds while Damian Chong Qui chipped in 12 points and four rebounds in the game.  AJ Bramah scored 25 points while adding seven rebounds off the bench to lead Robert Morris (15-11, 11-2 NEC) while Sayveon McEwen added 12 points in the victory.  The Colonials outscored the Mount, 44-30, in the second half, hitting 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the field, including a sizzling 70 percent (7-of-10) from three-point range.

The Mountaineers started the game strong, building an 8-to-3 early advantage on the strength of a pair of Morse three-pointers.  A Naim Miller triple gave the Mount a 17-to-12 advantage, but Robert Morris countered with the next six points to take the lead.  Jefferson knocked down consecutive buckets to give the Mount a 21-18 advantage with just under eight minutes left in the opening half.  Robert Morris took the lead for good with 10 unanswered points, and went to the locker room with a 33-30 lead.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday, February 15, with a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Saint Francis U at Knott Arena.
