Altoona, Pa. | Holiday Bowl
EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 23, 2020) - Mount St. Mary's bowling enters the home stretch of the 2019-2020 regular season with four remaining tournaments. First up is the Red Flash Invitational, hosted by Saint Francis U this weekend in Altoona.
SETTING THE SCENE
The Mountaineers stand at 40-28 on the season and 4-8 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). They remain ranked 13th in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), pending a new poll that will come out next month.
Despite a 4-8 record two weeks ago, the Mount had one of the better finishes at the inaugural Stormin' Blue and White Vegas Classic. The team finished in sixth out of 13 teams with a total pinfall of 9,946, good for a 198.9 average. Rebecca Dodson and Tamera Stanton earned top 20 finishes in the individual rounds, and the Mount earned wins over Monmouth, Saint Francis U, Prairie View A&M and Maryville.
FORMAT
Tournament play will have a traditional flow, with Friday Bakers, Saturday traditional games and Sunday bracket play. Teams will square off in five rounds on the first two days and three rounds on the final day. Bracket play on Sunday will be a best-of-seven format.
THE FIELD
10 teams are set to compete this weekend, half of whom hail from Pennsylvania. The Keystone State schools include host Saint Francis U, La Roche, Mercyhurst, Mount Aloysius and Penn State Altoona. Out-of-state competitors are Felician from New Jersey, Morgan State from Maryland and Walsh and Youngstown State from Ohio. Youngstown is the only other top 25 team besides Mount, ranking ninth in the NTCA poll.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Red Flash Invitational leads into February for the bowling team, who will wrap up the regular season with three meets. Starting it off will be the Bowl for the Cure hosted by Molloy College, followed by Morgan State's James Brown Invitational and the third NEC meet.
