Yann Kouemi's Early Goal Lifts Mount St. Mary's Men's Soccer Past Howard, 1-0

Box Score

Washington, D.C. (September 10, 2019)—The Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 1-0 win at Howard on Tuesday afternoon.  Yann Kouemi's goal in the third minute lifted the Mountaineers to the victory.

"I am proud of the players for starting fast this afternoon," said head coach Bryan Cunningham.  "We were able to jump out early on Howard and that allowed us to dictate tempo the rest of the way.  It's not an easy place to play, but the players adjusted accordingly and persevered."

The lone goal of the game came in the third minute when Kouemi converted a Miguel Lucero corner kick to put the Mount ahead early.  The Mountaineers continued to pressure Howard (0-2), but were unable to extend the lead.  The Mount defense was solid all day, limiting Howard's scoring chances all game.

Mount St. Mary's returns home to host Navy on Saturday, September 14, with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off at Waldron Family Stadium.

NOTES:  The Mountaineers received votes for the second consecutive week in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Men's Soccer Rankings, released earlier today...The Mount has 19 votes in the poll, tied with West Virginia for the fifth-most among teams receiving votes.
