Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (October 11, 2019)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team lost to Long Island, 4-0, in Northeast Conference action at Waldron Family Stadium on Friday afternoon. Elisabeth Rockhill paced the Mount with a team-high three shots in the game.
The Mount had the better of the play early in the first half before the Sharks (3-9-1, 2-3-0 NEC) turned the momentum midway through the half. LIU got on the scoreboard when Emily Poole scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to the upper left part of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The Sharks then scored a pair of goals in a span 2:39 to take a 3-0 advantage. Kendra Oldroyd's first of two goals in the game made it a two-goal advantage, and just under three minutes later Emily Tirado headed home a free kick from Poole to make it 3-0 at the half.
The Sharks rounded out the scoring when Oldroyd converted her second score of the contest 4:58 into the second half for the 4-0 advantage. The Mount's best scoring chance came late in the second half when Mikayla Bates sent a shot just wide of the goal.
LIU held a 17-to-6 shot advantage, including a 7-to-2 margin in shots on goal. LIU also had five corner kicks to the Mount's two in the game. Charlotte Elrod started in goal for the Mount, allowing four goals with no saves in 55:24 of action. Sydni Surowiec played the final 34:36 of the game, making three saves while not allowing a goal. Kayla DeTreux made a pair of saves for the Sharks in the win.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Sunday, October 13, with a 2:00 p.m. home game against St. Francis Brooklyn.
