Mount St. Mary's Women's Tennis Drops Decision to George Mason

Fairfax, Va. (February 26, 2017) – Benefiel and Smith would pick up the victory in flight two of doubles action giving Mount their only win of the afternoon but George Mason would sweep singles action for a 7-0 win.

George Mason swept singles action but Mount did not go down without a fight as Quintanilla won the first set 7-5, but would be defeated by Green in the next two sets to finish the flight 5-7, 6-3, 10-7. Kelly Smith would surrender the first set to Morgan Yang but would win the next set in order to force the tie-breaker set. Yang would win the match with the final of 7-6(8), 4-6, 13-11. Hannah Davis would also win the first set for Mount in the fifth flight but would fall to Olivia Lacy-Thompson 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Benefiel and Smith would defeat Walston and Lacy-Thompson 6-1 in doubles action but George Mason would be too much to overcome for the Mount. The Patriots would win the following two flights of the doubles matches.

Mount returns to action during the Florida spring trip where they will meet Western Carolina, Monday, March 6.
