FINAL RESULTS
Lewisburg, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up the final day of competition at the three-day Bucknell Invitational on Sunday from the Varsity Tennis Courts.
Darren Mast advanced the furthest of any Mountaineer at the invitational, reaching the championship of flight 2 singles. Mast battled teammate Zachary Burau in the semifinals, topping the freshman with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, before getting edged by Bucknell's Max McDonald, 7-5, 7-6, in the finals.
Mast also advanced to the championship of flight 2 doubles alongside partner Brandon Wortkotter. The duo faced off against Saint Francis U's Franz Luna and Eli Cerdan, falling to the Red Flash pairing by a 7-5 margin.
Highlighting the day on the women's side, Erin Benefiel and Brittany Poje reached the flight 2 doubles consolation finals after topping Colgate's Cheyenne Brown and Nicole Szczech on Saturday. Benefiel and Poje eventually fell to Ellie Zimmerman and Connor Brewer in the finals, 6-3.
The Mount tennis teams return to Emmitsburg to face Rider on Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m.
