Mount St. Mary's Women's Tennis Falls to Loyola on Senior Day

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 6, 2016) – Kelly Smith and Erin Benefiel claimed victory at No. 1 doubles, but Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis fell to Loyola, 7-0, on Senior Day Wednesday at the Mount Tennis Courts.

Isabella Draper was honored prior to the match as part of Senior Day for her contributions throughout her four years at the Mount.

Smith and Benefiel earned a 6-3 win at the top flight of doubles, but Brittany Poje and Emma Blake fell, 6-5(7-2), at No. 2 and Draper and Sam Barbato dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 3 as Loyola collected the doubles point.

In singles action, Smith lost, 7-6(2), 7-5, at No. 1, Poje fell, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, Benefiel was topped, 6-4, 6-3 at the third flight, Blake fell, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4, Draper dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5 and Barbato lost, 6-1, 6-3, at the sixth flight.

The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 9 for a Northeast Conference match at Wagner at 10 a.m.
