Emmitsburg, Md. (April 3) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis team opened Northeast Conference play on Sunday, falling to Saint Francis U., 6-1, at the Mount Tennis Courts. Sruthi Kamprath posted a win at No. 4 singles for the Mount's lone point.
Kamprath won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, in the fourth flight of singles to lead the Mount on the afternoon. Kelly Smith fell at the top flight, 6-1, 6-4, Brittany Poje dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2, Erin Benefiel won the first set in her match, but eventually fell 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) at No. 3, Emma Blake lost 6-1, 6-0 at the fifth fight, and Isabella Draper fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
In doubles play, Kamprath and Poje claimed a 6-4 victory at No. 2, but Benefiel and Smith dropped a 7-6 (4) decision at the top flight and Blake and Draper lost 6-1 at No. 3 as Saint Francis U. collected the doubles point.
The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, April 6 for a home match against Loyola at 3:30 p.m.
