Mount Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to Bucknell

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 23, 2016) -- The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's tennis teams fell to Bucknell on Wednesday at the Mount Tennis Courts. The men dropped a 4-3 decision, while the women fell by a 7-0 final.

The Mount men's team claimed wins at the top two flights of doubles as Mateo DeSomocurcio and Austin Blake won 6-4 at No. 1 and Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter registered a 6-4 win at No. 2. Darren Mast and Peter Landis fell at No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 decision.

In singles action, Blake fell 6-4, 6-4 at the top flight, DeSomocurcio dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 2, Tonon earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3, Mast fell 4-6, 7-3, 6-3 at the fourth flight, Wortkotter dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match at No. 5 and Landis won 6-1, 6-4 at the sixth flight.

On the women's side, Isabella Draper and Sam Barbato claimed a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, but Erin Benefiel and Kelly Smith fell by a 6-4 final at the top flight and Emma Blake and Brittany Poje dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 2 as Bucknell claimed the doubles point.

Smith fell 6-0, 6-0 at the top flight of singles, Poje was outlasted 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 2, Benefiel dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 3, Blake fell 6-0, 6-4 at the fourth flight, Draper lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Barbato dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 6.

The women are back in action on Tuesday, March 29 for a match against Howard at 3 p.m., while the men matchup against Morgan St. on Wednesday, March 30 at 3 p.m.
