Orlando, Fla. (March 1, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis team dropped matches to Presbyterian and Oakland on the opening two days of its spring trip to Florida.
On Sunday, Brittany Poje and Emma Blake earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles for the Mount, but Claire-Mitchell Andrews and Tracy Johnson earned a 6-1 win over Kelly Smith and Erin Benefiel at the top flight and Brittany Nuttall and Kayla Stanford posted a 6-0 victory over Isabella Draper and Sam Barbato at No. 3 to collect the doubles point for Presbyterian.
In singles action, Caroline Ferrari earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Smith at No. 1, Johnson posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Poje at No. 2 and Demi Henschel topped Benefiel, 6-2, 6-0 at the third flight. Nutall defeated Blake, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4, Nicole Croxton posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Draper at the fifth flight and Stanford earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Barbato at No. 6 singles.
On Monday, Oakland swept the doubles competition as Tamara Blum and Elizabeth Guy topped Smith and Benefiel, 6-2, at the top flight, Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara earned a 6-2 win over Blake and Poje at No. 2 doubles and Daria Artamonova and Sofia Borcuti defeated Draper and Barbato, 6-0, at No. 3.
Blum topped Smith, 6-1, 6-2, at the top flight of singles, Guy defeated Poje, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 and Artamonova earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Benefiel at No. 3. Celis topped Blake, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, Borcuti posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Draper at the fifth flight and Guevara registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Barbato.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Tuesday for a match vs. Behtune-Cookman at 2:30 p.m.
