Box Score Staten Island, N.Y. (February 6, 2016)—Mount St. Mary's fell to Wagner, 72-51, on Saturday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center. Sophomore guard Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) paced the Mountaineers with a team-high 14 points.
The Mount's Troy Henderson (Gastonia, N.C.) hit a three-pointer early in the second half to cut Wagner's lead to 39-36, but the Seahawks answered with a 9-0 run to take control of the game. Robinson converted a traditional three-point play with 7:41 remaining to cut Wagner's lead to 51-42, but the Seahawks countered again, scoring the next 11 points to seal the win.
Robinson was the lone Mount player in double figures with 14 points. Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) added nine points while Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) chipped in seven points and nine rebounds.
Corey Henson led all scorers with 22 points for Wagner.
Trailing 8-6 early in the first half, the Mount went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-8 advantage. Robinson sparked the run with a long three-pointer and a jumper. BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) then hit a pair of free throws to push the Mount lead to five.
A pair of Glover free throws extended the Mount advantage to 21-14 before Wagner's Japhet Kadji scored the next eight points to give his team a one-point lead. From there, it was a back-and-forth game with the Seahawks scoring the final four points of the half to take a 37-33 advantage.
Robinson went 5-for-5 from the field for 11 first-half points for the Mount while Henson scored 15 points in the half for Wagner. The Seahawks shot 59.3 percent in the opening half while the Mount was 12-for-16 (.750) at the charity stripe.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Thursday, February 11, when Sacred Heart visits Knott Arena for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
