Mount St. Mary's Uses Strong Defensive Effort to Post 71-53 Win at Bryant

Smithfield, R.I. (February 20, 2016)—Junior Robinson scored 17 points while BK Ashe added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 71-53 victory at Bryant on Saturday afternoon.

The Mount (13-16, 10-6 NEC) led by 12 points at the half and were never really threatened in the second stanza. 

Bryant did cut the Mount advantage to 58-50 with 3:13 remaining, but the Mount's Charles Glover hit a three-pointer on the next possession to push the advantage back to double figures.

Robinson hit 10-of-12 free throws while adding three assists and four rebounds to his 17-point effort.  Glover finished with 13 points, hitting 4-of-5 from the field in the game.  Ashe chipped in his second double-double of the year with 11 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.  Will Miller added eight points and Gregory Graves seven points and nine rebounds in the win.

Nisre Zouzoua led all scorers in the game with 20 points for Bryant (7-22, 4-12 NEC).

The Mount held Bryant to 32.1 percent shooting in the game, including 2-of-14 (.143) from three-point range.  The Mount also forced the Bulldogs into 17 turnovers.  Mount St. Mary's shot 37.5 percent from the floor and were 20-of-25 (.800) at the foul line in the win.

Trailing 11-8 with 12:47 left in the first half, the Mount used a 18-to-3 run to take a 26-14 advantage.  Taylor Danaher hit a shot in the lane, and a Glover three-pointer put the Mount ahead, 13-11.  Robinson added three free throws and a Danaher turn-around jumper gave the Mount an 18-11 advantage.

After Bryant's Zouzoua hit a three-pointer, Ashe connected on back-to-back triples to push the margin to 24-14.  Robinson connected on two more free throws to compete the surge.  The Mount went to the locker room with a 30-18 lead.

Ashe led the Mount with nine points and six rebounds in the first half while Robinson hit 7-of-8 at the foul line for all seven of his first-half points.  Graves controlled the backboards with eight first-half rebounds. 

Mount St. Mary's held Bryant to 8-of-34 (.235) shooting in the opening half while forcing eight turnovers.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Thursday, February 25, when they host Fairleigh Dickinson for Senior Day.  The Mount will honor seniors Danaher, Graves and Liam McManimon prior to the game.
