Emmitsburg, Md. (October 7, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University tennis teams wrapped up the opening two rounds of singles play on day one of the Mount Invitational Friday night in Emmitsburg.
In men's flight A singles, Darren Mast topped Loyola's Brian Hoffarth, 6-2, 6-7 (10-8), 10-5, and Howard's Ismael Kaouache, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals. Louis Tonon was the other Mountaineer to claim victory in flight A singles, winning his opening round match by a 6-0, 6-1 final over Loyola's JJ Good before falling to Good's teammate, Reid Burch, by a 6-1, 6-0 margin in the quarterfinals.
Peter Landis also advanced to the semifinals of flight B singles following a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jack Shortell of Loyola and a 6-2, 3-6, 12-10 win over Kyle Gower, also of Loyola. Brandon Wortkotter and Jean Armstrong also won their first round matches in flight B singles before falling in the quarterfinals.
In men's flight C singles, Chris Lindsey won his lone match of the day, claiming a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Langhorne Gost of Loyola.
On the women's side, Alexa Quintanilla advanced the furthest of any Mountaineer, posting wins over Taylor Diffley (6-2, 6-1) of Mary Washington and Danielle Thompson (6-4, 6-4) of Morgan State to reach the semifinals.
