Emmitsburg, Md. (October 23, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis team swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches to post a 6-1 victory over Monmouth on Sunday at the Mount Tennis Courts.
The Mount won all three doubles matches, led by the top flight pairing of Brittany Poje and Sruthi Kamprath, who downed Alexandra Graff and Victoria Nugent, 7-6 (3). Erin Benefiel and Kelly Smith registered a 6-4 win over Chioma Gabriel and Carloline Mattise at No. 2 doubles and the rookie pairing of Hannah Davis and Alexa Quintanilla topped Kendal Kauffman and Maria Ivanova, 6-2, at the third flight.
In singles play, Smith fell to Adriana Armendariz, 6-4, 6-1, at the top flight for Monmouth's only point of the afternoon. Quintanilla downed Nugent by a 6-3, 6-0 margin at No. 2, Poje defeated Kauffman, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3, Kamprath posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Gabriel at the fourth flight, Benefiel downed Mattise, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 and Davis registered a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ivanova at the sixth flight.
The Mount is off from competition for the rest of the fall semester, returning to action on January 21 at Navy.
