Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 9, 2016)--Mount St. Mary's fell to Bryant, 82-79, in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena. Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) led the Mount with 20 points while Taylor Danaher (Fredericksburg, Va.) added 19 in the game.
The Mountaineers (6-11, 3-1 NEC) controlled the first half, taking a 34-20 lead to the locker room. The Mount shot 53.8 percent from the field in the half, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. Trailing 6-3, the Mount went on a 25-to-7 run to build a 28-13 advantage with 6:20 remaining in the half. Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) capped the run with his third three-pointer of the half to give the Mount the 15-point advantage.
Robinson opened the second half with back-to-back three-point baskets to give the Mount its biggest lead of the game, 40-20, with 18:26 on the clock. The Bulldogs (6-11, 3-1 NEC) slowly whittled away at the Mount lead throughout the remainder of the half.
A Gus Riley three-pointer with 5:47 left cut the Mount's advantage to 56-49, the first time the lead fell below double figures in the half. After Bryant cut the margin to 58-55, Danaher converted a shot in the lane to make it 60-55 with 2:14 on the clock. Riley followed with a three-pointer to make it a two-point game, and the Mount came up empty on its next two possessions.
Bryant's Shane McLaughlin sent the game to overtime with a tough drive to the basket with 0.8 seconds left in regulation.
In the first overtime, a Khalid Nwandu (York, Pa.) steal and lay-up and a Robinson drive gave the Mount a 69-65 lead with 55 seconds on the clock. Bryant's Nisre Zouzoua hit a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left to make it a two-point game. Bryant was able to get a stop, and McLaughlin was fouled on the rebound. He missed the front end of the one-and-one, but Riley came up with the offensive board and he was fouled. Riley hit both shots to even the score. Robinson drove the lane on the Mount's possession, but his contested lay-up was short, and the game headed to the second overtime.
Robinson opened the second overtime with a three-pointer to give the Mount a 72-69 advantage, but Bryant responded with the next seven points to grab a 76-72 lead. McLaughlin hit a pair of free throws with 1:12 on the clock to push the Bulldog lead to 80-74.
The Mount's Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) scored in the paint, and after McLaughlin hit 1-of-2 at the line, Miller drained a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to make the score 81-79.
The Mount then stole the inbounds pass and worked the ball to the right corner to BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.), but his three-pointer was off the mark, and Marcel Pettway hit 1-of-2 at the line with 0.4 seconds left to round out the scoring.
Robinson led the Mount with 20 points and three assists while Danaher hit all nine of his field goal attempts en route to matching his career high with 19 points. Miller hit 5-of-8 from three-point range for a season-high 15 points while Ashe chipped in 14 points in the game.
McLaughlin led Bryant with 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists while Zouzoua added 15 points and five boards.
