FIRST FIVE
1. Junior Robinson scored 17 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past Central Connecticut, 73-62, on Thursday night. Robinson helped fuel a 20-9 run to start the second half, giving the Mount a 15-point advantage. The Blue Devils chipped away at the deficit, cutting it to 58-55 with five minutes remaining. The Mountaineers responded with a 7-0 run to secure the win. Gregory Graves added 13 points and Chris Wray 10 points in the victory.
2. The Mount has started 3-0 in Northeast Conference play for just the third time since joining the league in 1989-90. The Mount also opened conference play with a 3-0 record in 2007-08 and 2004-05. The Mountaineers have never opened NEC play with a 4-0 mark.
3. Sophomore Junior Robinson has been the Mount's top scorer in NEC play. The 5-5 guard is averaging 14.3 points in three league games, shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range, and 90.9 percent from the charity stripe. He is coming off a 17-point effort in the Mount's win over Central Connecticut.
4. The Mount leads the NEC in league games in defensive efficiency (79.6), defense turnover percentage (30.0), scoring defense (55.0) and three-point defense (26.3). The Mountaineers have forced 62 turnovers in three conference games (20.7/game) and have held all three opponents to 63 points or less.
5. Up next, Mount St. Mary's heads to Robert Morris on Thursday, January 14, for a 7:00 p.m. showdown. The Mount then will visit Saint Francis U on Saturday, January 16, at noon.
