Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 7, 2016)--Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) scored a team-high 17 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 73-62 win over visiting Central Connecticut on Thursday night at Knott Arena.  With the win, the Mount moves to 3-0 in the Northeast Conference for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Robinson opened the second half with a three-pointer, and then added a four-point play to give the Mount a 45-35 lead.  The Mountaineers (6-10, 3-0 NEC) stretched the lead to 15 points on a Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) three-pointer and a Khalid Nwandu (York, Pa.) tip-in that made the score 54-39 with 11:58 remaining.
The Blue Devils (1-13, 0-3 NEC) chipped away at the Mount's advantage, cutting the deficit to 58-55 after a Khalen Cumberland basket with 5:27 remaining.
The Mount responded by scoring the next seven points to push the margin back to double figures.  Elijah Long (Mississauga, Ont.) hit a pair of free throws to start the run, Taylor Danaher (Fredericksburg, Va.) added a put back, Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) chipped in a free throw, and Robinson closed the run with a lay-up to give the Mount a 65-55 lead with 2:07 remaining.
Mount St. Mary's was able to seal the win by hitting all six of its free throw attempts down the stretch.
Robinson finished the game with 17 points and a pair of assists while Graves chipped in 13 points and three rebounds.  Chris Wray (Shelby, N.C.) added 10 points while Danaher and BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) posted eight points each in the victory.
Mustafa Jones led all scorers with 18 points for the Blue Devils with Jahlil Nails added 12 points off the bench.
The Mount shot 44.8 percent from the floor in the game, and committed just eight turnovers.  CCSU shot 48.9 percent, but committed 17 miscues.
The Mountaineers jumped to a 13-6 lead in the early going before Central Connecticut rallied with a 10-2 run to take the lead.  With the score tied at 30, the Mount scored the final four points of the half to take a 34-30 advantage.  The final basket was a Wray dunk off a nice feed from Ashe.
This is just the third time the Mount has opened NEC play with a 3-0 record since joining the conference in 1989-90.  The Mountaineers have never opened NEC play with a 4-0 record.
The Mount concludes its four-game homestand on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. matchup against Bryant.
Game Notes:  Mount St. Mary's improves to 6-0 at home this season...The Mount has won six in a row against CCSU, but the Blue Devils still hold a narrow 19-18 edge in the all-time series...The Mount has won its past seven NEC regular season home games.
