The Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball team looks to move to 3-0 in the Northeast Conference when Central Connecticut visits Knott Arena on Thursday night. The Mountaineers are coming off a 44-40 overtime win against St. Francis Brooklyn.
FIRST FIVE
1. Mount St. Mary's rallied from a nine-point deficit with just over six minutes remaining to grind out a 44-40 overtime win against St. Francis Brooklyn on Monday night at Knott Arena. Junior Robinson led the Mount with 13 points while BK Ashe added 10 points and a career-best nine rebounds. Trailing 34-25, the Mount evened the score with a 9-0 run that was capped by a Robinson three-pointer. After St. Francis hit a pair of free throws, Robinson sent the game to overtime with a lay-up with 24 seconds left. In overtime, Charles Glover hit the key shot, a three-pointer to give the Mount a 41-36 lead.
2. The Mount has started 2-0 in Northeast Conference play for the first time since the 2007-08 season. That year, the Mount started 3-0 in league play. The Mountaineers have never opened the conference season with a 4-0 mark.
3. The Mount's 44-40 overtime win on Monday night was the fewest points scored in a win by a Mount team since a 43-39 victory against Wittenberg in the NCAA Quarterfinals during the Mount's run to the 1962 NCAA College Division Championship.
4. The Mount has started NEC play with a solid effort on the defensive end, forcing a turnover on 32.5 percent of its defensive possessions in NEC play while posting an overall defensive efficiency is 73.8 points per 100 possessions. The Mount is holding opposition to 51.5 points and 34.0 percent shooting in NEC games, while forcing 22.5 turnovers per contest.
