Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 4, 2016)--Mount St. Mary's rallied from a nine-point deficit with 6:32 remaining to grind out a 44-40 overtime victory against visiting St. Francis Brooklyn at Knott Arena on Monday night. Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) led the Mountaineers with 13 points in the win.
Yunus Hopkinson gave St. Francis Brooklyn a 34-25 lead with 6:32 remaining in the contest. The Mount (5-10, 2-0 NEC) held the Terriers without a field goal the rest of regulation to rally to force overtime.
Robinson capped a 9-0 Mount run with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 1:51 left in regulation. Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) started the run with a putback basket with 5:07 left, snapping a 9:47 scoreless drought. BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) scored in transition and Khalid Nwandu (York, Pa.) scored on a cut to the lane on a nice feed from Ashe with 3:28 left to cut the deficit to 34-31, setting up Robinson's game-tying three.
The Terriers (4-11, 0-2 NEC) regained the lead on a pair of Amdy Fall free throws with 38 seconds remaining, but Robinson evened the score with a tough drive to the basket with 24 seconds left. Robinson then drew on offensive foul on Hopkinson with 3.7 seconds left, giving the Mount a chance to win in regulation. Robinson, however, saw his runner go long at the buzzer, forcing overtime.
In the extra session, Ashe hit a pair of free throws to give the Mount a 38-36 advantage. Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) then hit a clutch three-pointer with 1:45 left to push the advantage to 41-36. Graves added a free throw to make it a six-point game, but Tyreek Jewell scored in the lane with 24 seconds on the clock to cut the deficit to 42-38. Jewell's basket was the first for the Terriers in 11:08 of action.
Robinson, however, sealed the win with a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left before a Jewell putback with two seconds left rounded out the scoring.
The Mount shot just 29.1 percent from the field in the game (16-of-55), including 2-of-15 (.133) from three-point range. St. Francis Brooklyn shot just 28.8 percent (15-of-52) in the contest and while committing 24 turnovers.
Robinson led the Mount with his 13-point effort while Ashe added 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds. Graves added five points and nine boards as well. Jewell led St. Francis Brooklyn with 13 points and eight boards while Hopkinson chipped in 11 points in the loss.
The Mount continues its four-game homestand on Thursday night against Central Connecticut. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Game Notes: The Mount's 44 points in the win was the fewest points by the winning team in an NCAA Division I game this year...The Mount is now 5-0 at home this season.
