Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 28, 2016)--BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) led four players in double figures as Mount St. Mary's cruised past Robert Morris, 70-49, at Knott Arena on Thursday night. The Mount raced to a 16-point lead in the opening 10 minutes to take control of the game.
After Robert Morris scored the first bucket of the game, the Mount rattled off an 8-0 run to take the lead. Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) and Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) each hit three-pointers while Ashe scored on a putback to cap the spurt.
The Mount (10-12, 7-2 NEC) then went on a 12-0 run to push its lead to 16 points midway through the first half. Robinson started the run with a three-pointer. After Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) hit the first of two free throws, Chris Wray (Shelby, N.C.) grabbed the offensive board, which led to a Miller three-pointer that made the score 19-8. Wray then scored on a lay-up, and an Ashe three-pointer made the score 24-8 with 10:31 left in the opening half.
The Colonials (6-16, 4-5 NEC) were able to chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit to 30-23 before Robinson hit two free throws for to give the Mountaineers a 32-23 lead at the half.
Mount St. Mary's scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 39-23 lead, and the Mount led by double figures the rest of the way.
Ashe hit a three-pointer with 15:20 left in the game to make the score 48-28, and the Mount led by 22 points (68-46) after a Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) putback.
Ashe went 8-of-13 from the field for his team-high 19 points while adding five rebounds in the win. Miller finished 4-of-7 from three-point range en route to a 14-point night while Robinson added 11 points, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Wray was the Mount's other double-figure scorer with 10 points.
Robert Morris was led by Rodney Pryor's 11 points.
The Mount shot 45.6 percent from the field in the game, and was 9-of-19 (.474) from three-point range. Mount St. Mary's scored 23 points off 20 RMU turnovers. The Colonials shot 39.1 percent overall and were just 1-of-14 (.071) from beyond the arc.
The win gives the Mount a season sweep over Robert Morris, the first time since the 2005-06 season the Mount has swept both games in the regular season. It was also the Mount's first home win against Robert Morris since Feb. 27, 2010.
The Mount, which is in sole possession of first place in the Northeast Conference with a 7-2 record, hosts Wagner on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
