Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (January 2, 2016)--Five players scored in double figures as Mount St. Mary's ran past LIU Brooklyn, 79-63, in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena.
BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) paced the Mount with 16 points while Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) added 14 points in the win. Chris Wray (Shelby, N.C.) and Elijah Long (Mississauga, Ont.) each tallied a career-high 13 points while Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) also added 13 in the win.
Trailing 15-14 midway through the first half, the Mount rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 25-15 advantage. Ashe started the scoring spurt with a three-pointer ahead of a Wray basket in the paint. Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) buried a three-pointer from the right corner and Robinson added another three-pointer to cap the run to push the Mount lead to double figures with 5:24 left in the opening half.
The Mount (4-10, 1-0 NEC) continued to surge late in the half, taking a 35-19 lead with 2:13 left after an Ashe fast-break dunk on a feed from Wray. Ashe also added a three-pointer and a fast-break lay-up during the late run. The Mountaineers went to the locker room with a 38-23 lead.
LIU Brooklyn (6-6, 0-1 NEC) cut the Mount's lead to 44-34 early in the second half, but back-to-back three-pointers from Graves and Robinson along with another Wray basket gave the Mount an 18-point lead. Mount St. Mary's extended its lead to as many as 22 points and led by double figures the rest of the way.
The Mount shot 46.2 percent from the field in the game while hitting 9-of-21 (.429) from three-point range. Mount St. Mary's added 20 points off 21 LIU Brooklyn turnovers. LIU Brooklyn shot 39.2 percent in the contest, but was 20-of-26 (.769) at the foul line.
Mount St. Mary's continues its four-game homestand on Monday night with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against defending NEC regular season champion St. Francis Brooklyn.
