Box Score Loretto, Pa. (January 16, 2016)—Gregory Graves (Sterling, Va.) scored 18 points as Mount St. Mary's used a late run to post an 82-72 win over Saint Francis U on Saturday afternoon at DeGol Arena.
With the score tied at 53-53 with 8:39 remaining, Will Miller (Dallas, Texas) keyed a 9-0 run to give the Mount a 62-53 advantage. Miller started the run with a four-point play, and then added a three-pointer on the next possession to give the Mount a 60-53 lead. Miller then stole the inbounds pass, and fed Graves for a jumper for to make it 62-53 with 6:59 on the clock.
After the Red Flash cut the margin to 64-57, Taylor Danaher (Fredericksburg, Va.) converted a nice pass from Junior Robnison (Mebane, N.C.) and BK Ashe (Washington, D.C.) drained a corner three-pointer to stretch the advantage to 69-57. After a Red Flash free throw, Graves and Ashe converted back-to-back buckets to give the Mount (8-11, 5-1 NEC) its biggest lead at 73-58. From there, the Mount was able to hit free throws to secure the win.
It was a balanced effort for the Mount as seven players scored seven or more points. Graves led the way with 18 points, hitting 7-of-10 from the field and all three of his three-point attempts. Robinson added 15 points and five assists while Ashe and Danaher chipped in 11 points each. Elijah Long (Mississauga, Ont.) added nine points with Miller and Charles Glover (Bowie, Md.) posting seven each.
Ben Millaud-Meunier led Saint Francis (7-10, 3-3 NEC) with 19 points Ronnie Drinnon added (7-10, 3-3 NEC) with 18 points and 11 boards.
Saint Francis jumped out to a 9-4 advantage before the Mount rallied with eight consecutive points to take the lead. Robinson hit a pair of jumper while Glover added a three-pointer from the left wing that capped the run.
The Red Flash answered, taking a 28-24 advantage on a Basil Thompson free throw with 4:08 left in the half. The Mount ended the half on a 10-2 run to take the lead at the break. Long nailed a three-pointer off the break to start the streak. After a Patrick Wrencher bucket for the Red Flash, Danaher scored on putback and Long gave the Mount a 31-30 lead with a tough drive to the basket. After the Mount got a stop, Long found Glover in the right corner, and the sophomore guard buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Mount a 34-30 advantage.
Robinson paced the Mount with 13 first-half points while Long added seven. The Mount shot 58.3 percent from the field in the half, including 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the arc. Saint Francis U shot 52.2 percent in the half, including 5-of-7 (.714) from three-point range.
The Mount is back in action on Thursday, January 21, with a 7:00 pm matchup at Sacred Heart. That game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
