Day One Results
Baltimore, Md. (September 25, 2015)—Brittany Poje and Emma Blake advanced to the quarterfinals to pace the Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team on the first day of the Loyola Women's Tennis Invitational.
Each pair entered in the tournament competes as a team. An eight-game pro-set is played in doubles followed by singles in a best two-of-three fashion with the third set played as a super-tiebreaker. The team that wins two of the three points moves on in the competition while the losing pair moves to the consolation bracket.
Poje and Blake teamed for an 8-4 win over Julie Clark and Nicole Eberle to capture the doubles point of their match. Poje then clinched the win with a win in singles over Clark.
Erin Benefiel and Kelly Smith were downed by Olivia Lacy-Thompson and Esu Erdenbat, 2-1. The Mount edged the George Mason pair, 8-6, in doubles, but George Mason captured both singles matches to earn the 2-1 victory.
Elizabeth Veronis and Isabella Draper were defeated by Jane Awad and Scarlett Walston, 3-0. The Mount's Sam Barbato was teamed with Lauren Tucker of Longwood, and her duo fell to a pair from Loyola.
The tournament continues tomorrow.
