West Windsor, N.J. (April 17, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's tennis team's season came to an end with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of third-seeded Saint Francis U on Friday in the Northeast Conference Quarterfinals at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

Experiencing NEC Tournament play for the first time, freshman Sruthi Kamprath (Sinking Spring, Pa.) earned a point for the sixth-seeded Mountaineers with a victory at No. 3 singles. The Mount ends the season with a 9-8 record, while SFU (6-10) advances to face second-seeded Bryant in the NEC Semifinals on Saturday.

Due to rain in the area, Friday's action was shifted indoors where singles matches were played first instead of the traditional format with doubles first.

Kamprath earned a tough straight-set victory at No. 3 singles against SFU's Alex Sachs. The rookie Mountaineer took the first set on a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-5), before winning the second set by a 6-4 score.

The Red Flash picked up victories at No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 singles to earn the four points necessary to win the match. Once SFU earned its fourth point, Jennifer Smith's (Davenport, Wash.) No. 6 match was halted, and doubles matches were not played.

At the No. 4 slot, freshman Cassandra Powell (Vienna, W.Va.) dropped the first set, 6-1, to Brittini Jentz. Powell was able to pick up three games in the second set before ultimately falling, 6-3. Playing her final collegiate match, senior Danielle Nguyen (Bel Air, Md.) also picked up four games in a 6-3, 6-1 No. 5 singles loss to Lucy Jasso.  

The Mountaineers graduate three seniors from the 2014-15 squad but return seven letterwinners for next year's team.
