Mount Women's Tennis Earns 6-1 Win Over College of Saint Benedict

Orlando, Fla. (March 5, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team improved its overall record to 5-3 this season thanks to a 6-1 victory over College of Saint Benedict on Thursday as part of the team's spring break trip in Florida.

In matches in Florida, the Mount has now gone 2-2 with wins over Augustana on Monday and Saint Benedict on Thursday.

The Mountaineers jumped out to a 1-0 advantage by taking the doubles points with wins in all three matches. At the No. 1 position, Jennifer Smith (Davenport, Wash.) and Kelly Smith (Davenport, Wash.) cruised to an 8-2 victory, while Erin Benefiel (Lake Mary, Fla.) and Danielle Nguyen (Bel Air, Md.) won by an 8-3 margin at No. 3.

In No. 2 doubles play, freshmen Sruthi Kamprath (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Cassandra Powell (Vienna, W. Va.) were 9-8 (8-6) winners.

Mount St. Mary's went on to take five of the six singles matches on the day.

Kamprath (No. 3), Powell (No. 4), Nguyen (No. 5) and Jennifer Smith (No. 6) all played their way to straight-set wins, while Kelly Smith (No. 2) dropped the first set before recovering for the victory.

The Mount rounds out action in Florida with a match versus Detroit tomorrow at 10 a.m.
