Emmitsburg, Md. (March 27, 2015) – Battling back after dropping the doubles point, the Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team played its way to a 5-2 home victory over Wagner in Northeast Conference action at the Mount Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

Mount St. Mary's (7-5, 1-0 NEC), making its NEC debut, fell behind as Wagner (5-4, 2-2 NEC) won two of the three doubles matches to take the point. In singles, the Mountaineers claimed five of the six matches to pick up the home victory.

The all-freshmen duo of Sruthi Kamprath (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Cassandra Powell (Vienna, W.Va.) made quick work of Wagner's Jenna Harris and Carrie Gibson at the No. 2 doubles slot with an 8-0 win.

Of the Mount's five singles wins, four were decided in straight sets. Kamprath cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 slot, while Powell won by the same 6-1, 6-1 scores at No. 4. Seniors Danielle Nguyen (Bel Air, Md.) and Jennifer Smith (Davenport, Wash.) added straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

In her No. 2 singles match, sophomore Kelly Smith (Davenport, Wash.) rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-6 victory over Samantha Hodges.

The Mount will seek its third-consecutive victory on Saturday with a home match versus St. Francis Brooklyn at 11 a.m.
